NOTES from the BIG CHAIR

The Fourth of July (July 4, 1776) is not only the 230th anniversary of our nation's declared independence. But the following year - July 4, 1777 - Captain John Paul Jones aboard RANGER unfurled the "Stars and Stripes."
It was the first time our flag was flown over an American Navy warship.
